All "Great Places to Work" lists require certification from Great Place to Work.
Application Process
- Complete a company profile. This is a statistical brief that includes data such as number of employees, management team, industry, etc. It it used to help the Great Place to Work organization know which awards are relevant for your company.
- Employee survey. A survey is sent to all part-time and full-time employees. It includes 60 statements phrased in a positive way, and based on a 5 pt scale. A company must have at least 10 full-time employees to qualify.
- Pay the fee. The fee is based on the size of company and is renewed each year.
- 10-500 employees: $995
- 500-1000 employees: $1495
- 1000+ employees: $1995
- Companies of 1000+ employees are eligible for Fortune's Top 100 Best Places to Work. Companies must be certified and complete a Culture Audit. See methodology here.
Certification Approval
- Certification is granted to any company that scores an average of 65%.
- The number of completed surveys required is based on the size of the company. Great Place to Work will manage the distribution and collection of surveys from employees and verify the quality of results.
- Once a company is certified, it is immediately eligible and will be automatically considered for any "best of" list for which it is qualified. Qualification is based on data provided in the company profile. The published list is based on the companies that meet the precise list requirements and have the highest certification scores.
- Certification is awarded annually. Companies must apply each year.
- Companies can be disqualified based on public investigations such as with Uber or WeWork.
Marketing and Branding
- Great Place to Work works with companies to promote "best places" awards to help drive recruiting, employee branding, etc. There is a fee for this support.
